[Audio] Grand Theft Auto: The Lost & Damned EP

The homie Statik Selektah is on his bonafied grizzly these days, recording an album with Sai' in 24 hours, working on the 1982 album with Termanology, & still managing to record this dope EP for the new Grand Theft Auto: Lost and Damned video game. The EP is produced entirely by Statik Selektah and features joints from Consequence, Freeway, Saigon, Skyzoo, Termanology & Talib Kweli. The mix can be heard in it's entirety during the game, or can be purchased through iTunes or Amazon. Enjoy a couple of my fav' cuts off the album for now.

[Audio] Skyzoo Features...

Ever since Skyzoo's Archive Series ended a couple weeks back, I haven't made a new post for Brooklyn's top upcoming MC. So I decided to gather his latest features to keep the fans happy. For all the Skyzoo fans his new mixtape, The Power of Words, & debut album, The Salvation, are on the way, look for an early 2009 release. For those of you still sleeping on Sky', it's time to open your eyes up to a real lyricist.

[Audio] Skyzoo - Click x Get It Done (ft. Torae)

I passed on posting the last couple Skyzoo Archive joints, not because Sky' fell off, but they were already released to the public years ago. Anyway, this is the final edition of the series, and Sky drops two previously released tracks produced by the legendary DJ Premier. Both tracks feature Torae and are personally two of my favorite Sky' tracks. I'll let Skyzoo explain the rest...

"At #30 in the series, this is the swan song posting. The final archive to go out. In a 2 for 1 special, this is "Get It Done" & "Click"-2007, both featuring Torae & produced by Dj Premier. I felt like the importance of these 2 songs and what they've done for my career was more than a good enough reason to end the series with them. As most of you can imagine, these 2 songs were a dream come true to create, something i'm extremely proud of. So here's the story of how the 2 songs came about.

Growing up in the 80's and 90's, Dj Premier to me was the end all be all of production. So when I was presented with the opportunity to record with him (along with my man Torae), I jumped at the chance to get a classic Preem beat & "scracth hook" that he's so infamous for. The plan was originally to do one record and push it to the mixtapes and internet. Tor and I showed up to Headcourterz Studio on pens and needles. Regardless of the talent that he and I have, recording with Preem for the first time means you gotta come with your A game, bottom line.

We got there and Preem was making a beat for us to rock, and we watched "Little Man" on dvd in the lounge area while Preem was in the back working on the track (Preem makes everything on the spot). When Preem called us into the room to hear what he made, we loved it, but Preem didnt. He liked the beat but wasn't sure if it was what he wanted for us. He wanted a more 90's esque banger. He started working on another beat, called us back in the room, and played what would become "Get It Done". Me and Tor SPAZZED when we heard the beat. We started writing, and by 6am the joint was written, recorded, and being mixed.

Fast forward 3 months and Preem reaches out to us to link up again. He called and said "yo yall remember that 1st beat I made? I think we should go back in the lab and knock that one out too". Obviously, you don't turn Preemo beats down, so once again Tor and I jumped at the opportunity to make another joint. So we get to the studio, turn on the initial beat that Preem made before "Get It Done", and we had another Preemo banger. That song would become known as "Click". So, that's the story between 2 modern day hip hop classics. Here's "Get It Done" & "Click"-2007, both featuring Torae & produced by Dj Premier.

On a side note, I wanna use this entry to thank all of you who've been posting, listening to, and sharing the Skyzoo Archive series over the past few months. I'm glad I was able to share all of tehse with you. This is the final posting, but TONS of new music is on the way, so get ready. "The Power of Words" mixtape is coming along great, and the album "The Salvation" is sounding exactly like I always imagined it to. Thanks again for retracing the archives with me, hope yall enjoyed it. Holla." -Skyzoo-

[Audio] Skyzoo - I Still Love Her (ft. Sic Osyrus)

I missed out on posting the last couple joints from Skyzoo's Archive Series, but they were tracks off his Corner Store Mixtape, which as a fan of Skyzoo, you should already own. Anyway here's installment 26...

"At #26 in the series, this is “I Still Love Her” featuring Sic Osyrus, produced by OZ. Me and Sic did this in 2007, and it was on his mixtape Sic-O-Nomics pt 2. When he hit me with the record, I liked where the beat was going with the Common and Kanye samples, so it made it easier to write. The “we don’t wanna hear that weak shit no mo’” was real dope, and I just went from there with the verse. I remember writing this really quickly, because its really just recalling and expressing things that I already feel. Realistic topics are easy to pen, that’s why everything I pen is pretty much realistic ;o). Sic got busy as well, and he’s definitely been killing the show circuit and the mixtape world, so look out for him. Here it is, “I Still Love Her” featuring Sic Osyrus, produced by OZ. Enjoy. P.S: “The Wire-The Complete Series” is dropping on DVD the first week of December at the HBO store, and if you know me then you know much of a Wire head I am. So if anyone wanted to know what’s on my birthday (December 24th)/Christmas list, there’s a hint. Just figured i’d throw that out there. Make sure you cop 2, one for you, one for… Holla" - Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - So Close

"So at #23, this is "So Close"-2007, produced by 9th Wonder. This is a record I did just for fun. 9th always tells me that I pick his favorite beats, the beats that he plays for people and they love them but they're scared to rock them (I have another one of those "scared" beats on "The Salvation", coming soon...). This is one of those beats that he said he played for other artists and they loved it but didnt know how to approach it. So when he played it for me, I knew right away what i wanted to do with it. Its alotta line-for-line stuff going on with this one. I just went in with the word play and went for that rewind button appeal. I did this in '07 in a studio session where I had some downtime, and I just went right in on the beat. 9th threw it on his MySpace page at 7am the next morning. Like I said before, I have great relationships with tons of producers, all of whom I feel are some of the best at what they do, but 9th is the Toomp to my TI. We just connect crazy, whether its a full EP or just a few joints (don't worry, he's on "The Salvation" twice...). So here it is, "So Close"-2007, produced by 9th Wonder. Holla. PS: BARACK OBAMA IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! I've never been more proud than I am now. We as an American people all stood up when needed and did what we had to do. Congrats to the Obama family and everyone who voted to get them in the white house. "My president is black..." - Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - Good Morning America

"At #22, this is "Good Morning America-2006" featruing Poca, produced by Hasan Insane. This is a joint I did for my homegirl Poca's mixtape back in '06. Poca is one of my favorite female artists coming up right now. Her flow is real unorthadox; I call her the female Freeway. She puts alotta passion into what she writes and is real big on grind music, which is right up my alley. She's finishing up her new tape now so look for that real soon. As far as the track, the beat spoke to me, hands down. I heard the sample off top and fell in love with it. I remembered the Balck Star song "Respiration" (one of the greatest hip hop songs EVER! Quote that) where Mos said "the new moon rode high in the cloud of the metropolis,..." and I kinda saw that line coming true when I heard the beat, so I decided to start the song off with that. My man Hasan Insane did the beat, and he bodied with this one. So here it is, "Good Morning America-2006" featuring Poca, produced by Hasan Insane. Holla. P.S: By the time the next archive is released we'll have a new president. PLEEEEAAASSSEEE go out on November 4th and VOTE! This is the most crucial election to date. Vote for whomever you feel best represents you and what you need/want (hopefully you're voting for Barack Obama). I cant tell you who to go vote for, but if govenor S_r_h Pa_in gets to become president due to John McCain leaving this earth before his term ends (God forbid), we're DONE. If that happens im moving to Toronto. Bet that. 100" - Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - Play Your Position (ft. Guily Simpson)

"So at #21, this is "Play Your Position" f/Guilty Simpson, produced by Black Milk. This is from my 2007 mixtape "Corner Store Classic". This one is real gritty, and at the same time real lyric heavy. I always respected and was a fan of Guilty's pen game, and we had been talking about collabing on a joint for awhile, so I came up with this. Black Milk did the beat (top 10 producers dead or alive, quote that), and as soon as I heard it, I knew it had to be a hard gutter joint, hands down. Guilty and i just went in with the bars and kept the rhymes in sync with the feel of the beat. This was one of my faves off the tape. Here it is, "Play Your Position" f/Guilty Simpson, produced by Black Milk. Holla. PS: Pick up that "Tronic" joint from Black Milk, and get ready for "The Power Of Words" and "The Salvation", both right around the corner... P.S.S: By the time the next archive is released we'll have a new president.

[Audio] Skyzoo - The Bodega + Stop Fooling Yourself + You & Me

So on this wedenesday edition of the Skyzoo Archives he drops a Special Cloud 9 Edition. With three tracks produced by 9th Wonder off their collabo EP, Cloud 9.

"So at #20, I figured I’d make it really special by doing a 3 for 1 edition all from Cloud 9, my collabo EP with 9th Wonder. Cloud 9 is a 12 song EP that 9th Wonder and I did in 2006. The project was written and recorded in 3 days total, and wound up becoming one of the most talked about and respected projects that year. I always tell 9th that I got him for life on whatever because he let me kick in the door and get my name known with that project, and we really just did it to do it. 9th was the one who said “lets put it out for the people to enjoy”. Im very proud of this whole experience and greatful to all the fans who supported and became fans after hearing this EP. Here’s a quick breakdown of 3 of my faves off of the project.

“The Bodega” was the first song to leak from the cd. 9th actually leaked it himself which started the bidding war between the indie labels wanting to release it. This song is a day in front of the store, simple as that. I wrote it easily because its what I know. Everything that I wrote on this track (like always) really happened. Whether you’re from New York, Atlanta, Detroit, Baltimore, Compton or any other hood, you can relate to this. There’s a corner in every city, with a store sitting right on it, open 24/7.

“Stop Fooling Yourself” is a description of the blurred line between tryna go to college and tryna keep the lights on. Sometimes the college struggle is just as hard as the street struggle, or at least tryna get into one. Needless to say, this also really happened.

“You & Me” is a song that all my female fans were accquired off of. I originally wrote an R&B song to it and was gonna sell it to a female singer, but I got greedy and decided to keep the beat. So I wrote some of my life to it and put it on the EP. I love this record. We’ve all been through this at one point or another. And yep, you guessed it, this all really happened.

So here’s “The Bodega”, “Stop Fooling Yourself”, and “You & Me”, as part of a 3 for 1 special from Cloud 9, all produced by 9th Wonder. Holla. PS, if you dont have Cloud 9, log onto iTunes or amazon.com right now." - Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - Ghetto America

Above is a video of Skyzoo & Torae performing, "Get It Done", produced by DJ Premier. Below is track 19 in the Archive Series...

So at #19, this is “Ghetto America-2007″, produced by Hi-Tek. This is from my “Corner Store Classic” mixtape that I dropped in 2007. The tape was a huge success (XL rating in XXL mag, 4/5 on Rapmullet, etc), and the amount of downloads was insane. Kay Slay and Mick Boogie hosted it, and everyone from Sean Price to Maino to Nina B were all on it, so if you never got it, feel free to download it at www.datpiff.com. This song though was one of my favorites on it. The beat is a Talib instrumental that Hi-Tek did, and when I heard it, the story was already written in the sample. When I write, I do whatever the beat tells me to. I go off of the mood of the beat, and this one had it all written out. This song sums up alot of my upbringing as an 80’s baby (born in ‘82) and raised throughout the 80’s and 90’s. If youre from NY and were around during that time frame, you should remember everything that im talking about in the song. I made it completely visual and my hood is painted all through the bars. This is the type of shit my album is gonna sound like, so if you like this, you’re gonna ABSOLUTELY LOVE “The Salvation”, because the whole thing is like this but 10 levels higher. Speaking of which, im about 5 songs away from completion, and the mixtape is getting some steam on it too, so get ready. Without any further ado, here’s “Ghetto America”, produced by Hi-Tek. [Audio] Skyzoo ft. MC - For The Love Of The Game

"So we’re at #18, and this one is “For The Love Of The Game” feat. MC, prod. by drawzilla. This is a joint that my man Drawzilla wanted me to do for his compilation album in late 2007. He sent me the beat and pretty much said “its all on you, do whatever the track tells you too”, so that’s what I did.The record is really me talking to the music as if it were a girl im dating. People have done that in the past, so I put a twist on it as far as the outcome and my decisions on staying with her. Once I finished the record, Draw got his man MC to sing on the hook, and he definitly got busy with it.Drawzilla did the beat, and he’s been doing big things with the music for awhile now (MTV placements, Remy Ma joints, etc.), so look out for him. Here’s “For The Love Of The Game” feat. MC, prod. by drawzilla. Holla. Oh, and the album is almost done, and its coming out CRAAAAAZZZYYYY!!! 100"- Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - Good Looking (ft. AC)

Sky drops #17 on us in the Archive Series...
This time he liberates a joint off AC's second mixtape...
Produced by Hi-Tek, with a real laid back feel...

"At #17 in the series, this joint is called “Good Looking-2007″ featuring AC, produced by Hi-Tek. This is a joint that I did with AC in 2007. He had this concept to say good looking to everyone who ever helped or hated through out his career thus far. I dug the idea so I knew it would be a dope record. Hi-Tek did the beat, and it has that vintage tek sound that he’s known for. If you have AC’s mixtape from early 2007 then you’ve heard this before, but if you dont, enjoy the new old. haha. “Good Looking” featuring AC, produced by Hi-Tek. Holla."- Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - S.K.Y. & Keep It To The Side

Skyzoo is back on time this week with the 15th installment in the Archive Series...
This time he drops two joints on us, one produced by Fatin and the other by Khyrsis...
The Salvation is on it's way...
"Told you it’d be a Justus League week right? Lol. So in this week’s 2 for 1 bonus, here’s 2 more joints produced by League members and affliates. “S.K.Y.-2005″ is from that infamous NC trip (told yall we did ALOTTA joints that week). Produced by Fatin (the beatsmith behind Lloyd Banks’ “Cake” joint), this beat is beyond crazy. It started out as sort of an anthem for myself but was also real raw and line-for-line formatted, so I just kept it there. “Keep It To The Side-2005 f/Big Pooh” was a joint that I did later that year when I went back to NC to do more work. Khrysis did this beat, and Pooh set it off, so I just followed up on the alley oop. I came up with the hook real quick and that was that. This wound up becoming the banger for the night in the studio after we finished it. Repeat mode HEAVY that night, lol. Both of these are from the Hall of Justus album “Soliders Of Fortune”. If you dont have it yet, go hop on amazon or itunes immedietly. “S.K.Y.-2005″ produced by Fatin” & “Keep It To The Side f/Big Pooh-2005″ produced by Khrysis. Holla" - Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - Speed Racin (ft. Little Brother & Chaundon)

Skyzoo is back with the 14th installment in the Archive Series...
This joint features Little Brother & Chaundon...
Production from 9th Wonder...
The Salvation is on it's way...

"So why not make it a Justus League week, right? Number 14 in the series finds us at “Speed Racing-2006″ featuring Little Brother & Chaundon, produced by 9th Wonder. This is a beat that I picked out from 9th back when we first met in 2005. I did the hook on the spot and the verse followed right after. For awhile I never did anything with the record, and then Tay (Phonte of LB) called me and said that he and Pooh were doing a Gangsta Grillz tape with Dj Drama and wanted to know if I was down to get on it. Of course I was more than willing to be apart of what became a classic tape. So Tay said that he really liked the Speed Racing joint and wanted to finish it up, which was definitly fine by me. Next thing you know, me, Pooh, Tay, and Chaundon had a cult fave on our hands. So here it is; “Speed Racing f/Little Brother & Chaundon-2006″, produced by 9th wonder. Ps: “The Power Of Words” and “The Salvation” are both right around the corner. Holla"

[Audio] Skyzoo - Turn It Up

Skyzoo was a lil late with #13 this week...
This joint is from 2005 and is produced by Khrysis...
The Salvation is on it's way, Now Turn It Up...

"So we’re at #13 in the series, and for this one I present to you “Turn It Up-2005″, produced by Khrysis. In some of the archives i’ve released in the past few weeks, i’ve made references to a trip that I took to NC in 2005 when I first met the Justus League (ie: Little Brother, Chaundon, 9th Wonder, Khrysis, etc). In that trip, I did a ton of joints with them and this is the first song from that trip. Khrysis played me this beat in his car when he picked me up from the airport and I claimed it immedietly. To this day this is one of my favorite Khrysis beats, and this was the first joint we knocked out, with 14 more following up later that week. Some people may have heard this on “The City’s Favorite”, which is the mixtape that I premiered this on in 2005, while others may not have heard it at all. With that being said, you all get to peep it now. So here it is, “Turn It Up-2005″, produced by Khrysis. PS: i’m about 70% done with “The Salvation”, and the mixtape “The Power Of Words” is starting to grow as well. Get ready…" - Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - Only One Can Win

Skyzoo drops #12 on us today...
This one features production from the late-great J. Dilla...
Sky's debut album, The Salvation, is on the way, be on the lookout...

"For #12 in the archive series, I wanted to go back to 2006 and drop this joint I did over a Dilla Donuts beat. This is “Only One Can Win”, and it’s me rocking over one the Donuts bangers. Yall know im all about keeping my man Dilla dog’s name alive 100%, so expect a few Dilla jams in the archive series. I did this on some lyrical exercise type of shit, just airing out the bars. There’s alotta double lines that you may catch off top or may have to rewind and disect. Enjoy yall. Here it is; Only One Can Win-2006, produced by J Dilla. Holla. PS: look for “The Salvation” video blogs “Making The Saving”, coming soon…"- Skyzoo
