Artist Spotlight: UllNevaNo & Knowledge (The Equation)

"The Equation" is a duo consisting of an MC named UllNevaNo (in the hat) & producer named Da God Knowledge. Both artists reside from Baltimore, Maryland, although UllNevaNo is originally from California. UllNevaNo built up a strong buzz in the underground scene with his lyrical rhymes and battling ability. Knowledge has worked as in-house producer for Fast Way Records and has produced for Tislam the Great, 5 Stars, N.E.S. Gang and a lot of other local artists. As the story goes he was at a local vinyl store, when he met UllNevaNo, and from there they formed the group, "The Equation." Below is the group's debut release, Y=MC + P. The album over a year in the making, is a mixture of lyricism & sample-inspired beats. This is definitely an album you should check out. Also be on the lookout for more music from "The Equation" in the near future.

[News] NY Football Giants WR Plaxico Burress Shoots Himself

Plaxico is considered to be one of the top wide receivers in the league, when healthy, and helped clinch the title for the Giants in last years super bowl. But, he has continously failed to stay out of trouble, as proof of this recent incident. This season he has been suspended, fined and benched, there just isn't much left he hasn't done. Being a huge NY Giant's fan I was disappointed to hear this news this morning, but decided to look at the bright side; more playing time for Domnenik Hixon. He has proven himself all year when given a chance, and after last week's 269 all-purpose yards performance, he'll be looking to continue his impressive play in Week 13. Look for the Giants to go 11-1 after a pounding on the Washington Redskins.

[Audio] Skyzoo - Click x Get It Done (ft. Torae)

I passed on posting the last couple Skyzoo Archive joints, not because Sky' fell off, but they were already released to the public years ago. Anyway, this is the final edition of the series, and Sky drops two previously released tracks produced by the legendary DJ Premier. Both tracks feature Torae and are personally two of my favorite Sky' tracks. I'll let Skyzoo explain the rest...

"At #30 in the series, this is the swan song posting. The final archive to go out. In a 2 for 1 special, this is "Get It Done" & "Click"-2007, both featuring Torae & produced by Dj Premier. I felt like the importance of these 2 songs and what they've done for my career was more than a good enough reason to end the series with them. As most of you can imagine, these 2 songs were a dream come true to create, something i'm extremely proud of. So here's the story of how the 2 songs came about.

Growing up in the 80's and 90's, Dj Premier to me was the end all be all of production. So when I was presented with the opportunity to record with him (along with my man Torae), I jumped at the chance to get a classic Preem beat & "scracth hook" that he's so infamous for. The plan was originally to do one record and push it to the mixtapes and internet. Tor and I showed up to Headcourterz Studio on pens and needles. Regardless of the talent that he and I have, recording with Preem for the first time means you gotta come with your A game, bottom line.

We got there and Preem was making a beat for us to rock, and we watched "Little Man" on dvd in the lounge area while Preem was in the back working on the track (Preem makes everything on the spot). When Preem called us into the room to hear what he made, we loved it, but Preem didnt. He liked the beat but wasn't sure if it was what he wanted for us. He wanted a more 90's esque banger. He started working on another beat, called us back in the room, and played what would become "Get It Done". Me and Tor SPAZZED when we heard the beat. We started writing, and by 6am the joint was written, recorded, and being mixed.

Fast forward 3 months and Preem reaches out to us to link up again. He called and said "yo yall remember that 1st beat I made? I think we should go back in the lab and knock that one out too". Obviously, you don't turn Preemo beats down, so once again Tor and I jumped at the opportunity to make another joint. So we get to the studio, turn on the initial beat that Preem made before "Get It Done", and we had another Preemo banger. That song would become known as "Click". So, that's the story between 2 modern day hip hop classics. Here's "Get It Done" & "Click"-2007, both featuring Torae & produced by Dj Premier.

On a side note, I wanna use this entry to thank all of you who've been posting, listening to, and sharing the Skyzoo Archive series over the past few months. I'm glad I was able to share all of tehse with you. This is the final posting, but TONS of new music is on the way, so get ready. "The Power of Words" mixtape is coming along great, and the album "The Salvation" is sounding exactly like I always imagined it to. Thanks again for retracing the archives with me, hope yall enjoyed it. Holla." -Skyzoo-

[Audio] Skyzoo - I Still Love Her (ft. Sic Osyrus)

I missed out on posting the last couple joints from Skyzoo's Archive Series, but they were tracks off his Corner Store Mixtape, which as a fan of Skyzoo, you should already own. Anyway here's installment 26...

"At #26 in the series, this is “I Still Love Her” featuring Sic Osyrus, produced by OZ. Me and Sic did this in 2007, and it was on his mixtape Sic-O-Nomics pt 2. When he hit me with the record, I liked where the beat was going with the Common and Kanye samples, so it made it easier to write. The “we don’t wanna hear that weak shit no mo’” was real dope, and I just went from there with the verse. I remember writing this really quickly, because its really just recalling and expressing things that I already feel. Realistic topics are easy to pen, that’s why everything I pen is pretty much realistic ;o). Sic got busy as well, and he’s definitely been killing the show circuit and the mixtape world, so look out for him. Here it is, “I Still Love Her” featuring Sic Osyrus, produced by OZ. Enjoy. P.S: “The Wire-The Complete Series” is dropping on DVD the first week of December at the HBO store, and if you know me then you know much of a Wire head I am. So if anyone wanted to know what’s on my birthday (December 24th)/Christmas list, there’s a hint. Just figured i’d throw that out there. Make sure you cop 2, one for you, one for… Holla" - Skyzoo

Artist Spotlight: ASN

Artist Bio:

A.S.N. is making a name for himself very quickly. After years of bad choices that lead him through a series of fights, court cases and jails, the birth of his first child proved to be a rebirth for him as well.

After his release from Middlesex House of Corrections in 2005, A.S.N. put together his first semi-professional effort, 'Evolution’, selling around 1,000 CDs walking the streets of Boston and performing at shows all over MA, RI and NH. The album and its response caught the interest of Hendricks Management Group, who decided to link with Boston's own Soul On a Beat Entertainment and take A.S.N. from home-studio recording into the professional studios, professional production and the marketing of his latest project ‘Made For This’.

Since then, A.S.N. has performed in countless shows and battles all across New England with some of the most relevant names out of Massachusetts and beyond, as well as opening with internationally known artists such as GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, The Clipse, AZ, Smif N Wessun, Freeway, Killah Priest, Special Teamz and more. He has been featured on mixtapes along side Jay Z, Nas, Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, Fabolous and many, many others. The debut single from ‘Made For This’, aptly titled 'Road To Success' (featuring Hip Hop heavy-weight AZ) shot to #2 on the National College Radio charts and received heavy play on radio stations and in clubs all over the world. His song 'Eyes On the Prize' is set to be featured on Vin Diesel's 'Wheelman' video-game for Play Station 3, X Box 360 and PC.

A.S.N.'s official debut album, ‘Made For This’, contains an immaculate balance between deep and heartfelt tracks and the upbeat certified club bangers. It shows an intelligent and talented artist juggling the responsibilities of being a father of three with the wants and needs of being a twenty-five year old man. Providing fun for listeners while delivering the messages important to him, A.S.N. avoids the dumb-it-down attempt at making his music accessible and, instead, puts his intellect and wit into catchy anthems and varying rhyme schemes over commercially viable tracks. A.S.N. successfully incorporates Rock & Roll, Reggaetone and R&B into his music, utilizing both the sample-based music that Hip Hop is known for as well as live instrumentation.

A.S.N.’s variety rivals that of Timberland’s ‘Shockvalue’ without straying too far from his core Hip Hop audience. ‘Made For This’ also features names both underground and mainstream rap fans can appreciate, such as DJ Khaled, AZ, Smif N Wessun, Vakero and Lee Wilson, as well as some of Boston's best up-and-coming R&B artists, Bre (Of Smo Money Entertainment) and Nancia.

A.S.N. has shown his capability for making great music, linking with some of his genre's finest and gaining a worldwide audience without the backing of a major record label. Just imagine what he could do with one.

Congrats to...

Barack Obama for winning the Presidential Election and becoming America's first black president.

In a night to remember, the election finished in a landslide victory as Sen. Barack Obama earned 349 electoral votes to Sen. John McCain's 147 electoral votes. This marks a historic day for this country, one of which can be summarized by three words from Sen. Obama's acceptance speech, "Change has come." In light of this history day, I've posted some of the songs released recently supporting Sen. Obama.

This is a record I did just for fun. 9th always tells me that I pick his favorite beats, the beats that he plays for people and they love them but they're scared to rock them (I have another one of those "scared" beats on "The Salvation", coming soon...). This is one of those beats that he said he played for other artists and they loved it but didnt know how to approach it. So when he played it for me, I knew right away what i wanted to do with it. Its alotta line-for-line stuff going on with this one. I just went in with the word play and went for that rewind button appeal. I did this in '07 in a studio session where I had some downtime, and I just went right in on the beat. 9th threw it on his MySpace page at 7am the next morning. Like I said before, I have great relationships with tons of producers, all of whom I feel are some of the best at what they do, but 9th is the Toomp to my TI. We just connect crazy, whether its a full EP or just a few joints (don't worry, he's on "The Salvation" twice...). So here it is, "So Close"-2007, produced by 9th Wonder. Holla. PS: BARACK OBAMA IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! I've never been more proud than I am now. We as an American people all stood up when needed and did what we had to do. Congrats to the Obama family and everyone who voted to get them in the white house. "My president is black..." - Skyzoo

[Audio] Skyzoo - Good Morning America

"At #22, this is "Good Morning America-2006" featruing Poca, produced by Hasan Insane. This is a joint I did for my homegirl Poca's mixtape back in '06. Poca is one of my favorite female artists coming up right now. Her flow is real unorthadox; I call her the female Freeway. She puts alotta passion into what she writes and is real big on grind music, which is right up my alley. She's finishing up her new tape now so look for that real soon. As far as the track, the beat spoke to me, hands down. I heard the sample off top and fell in love with it. I remembered the Balck Star song "Respiration" (one of the greatest hip hop songs EVER! Quote that) where Mos said "the new moon rode high in the cloud of the metropolis,..." and I kinda saw that line coming true when I heard the beat, so I decided to start the song off with that. My man Hasan Insane did the beat, and he bodied with this one. So here it is, "Good Morning America-2006" featuring Poca, produced by Hasan Insane. Holla. P.S: By the time the next archive is released we'll have a new president. PLEEEEAAASSSEEE go out on November 4th and VOTE! This is the most crucial election to date. Vote for whomever you feel best represents you and what you need/want (hopefully you're voting for Barack Obama). I cant tell you who to go vote for, but if govenor S_r_h Pa_in gets to become president due to John McCain leaving this earth before his term ends (God forbid), we're DONE. If that happens im moving to Toronto. Bet that. 100" - Skyzoo
